  • Retry the import — some sites rate-limit aggressive scraping

Images Not Imported

  • Confirm the source images are publicly accessible

  • Very large images may take longer to process

AI Output Looks Off

  • Try adjusting or creating a new prompt template
  • Confirm you have sufficient AI credits for the operation
  • Use the regenerate button to try again — each run is independent

Pricing Not Applying

  • Verify the currency and markup rules are saved
  • Check the rounding strategy matches your expectation
  • Confirm VAT is configured correctly if your store uses it

FAQ

Getting started

(01)

What does Importly do?

Importly is a Shopify app that migrates product catalogs into your Shopify store. You paste a source store URL or collection URL, and Importly pulls titles, descriptions, images, variants, options, and tags. Imports run in the background, so you can close the tab and check progress later on the Import History page.

(02)

Who is Importly for?

Importly is built for merchants moving to Shopify from an existing Shopify-based store they own, and for merchants sourcing from suppliers they have rights to resell from. If you're consolidating stores, switching accounts, or building a catalog from an approved supplier feed, Importly fits that workflow.

(03)

Is Importly a dropshipping tool?

No. Importly isn't a dropshipping marketplace and doesn't provide a supplier directory. It's a migration and import tool — you bring your own source store URL or supplier catalog, and Importly handles pulling that data into Shopify. It also isn't a Chrome extension or a CSV importer.

(04)

Do I need to own the products I'm importing?

You need rights to the content. That means either your own source store or a supplier catalog you've been authorized to resell from. Importly isn't meant for scraping competitors or pulling from stores you have no relationship with.

(05)

How long does the install take?

Installing Importly from the Shopify App Store takes under a minute. After install, you'll get 25 free credits that never expire, and you can start your first import right away. Billing runs through Shopify, so there's no separate account or credit card to set up.

Source stores

(06)

Which stores can I migrate from?

Importly works with any store that exposes a Shopify-compatible product feed — specifically the /products.json endpoint. That covers most Shopify storefronts and Shopify-like platforms that mirror the same feed format. Paste the source store or collection URL and Importly handles the rest.

(07)

Can I migrate from a non-Shopify store?

Only if the source store exposes a Shopify-compatible /products.json feed. Some non-Shopify platforms mirror that format and will work fine. If the source doesn't expose that endpoint, Importly won't be able to read the catalog.

(08)

Do I need to install anything on the source store?

No. Importly reads from the public /products.json feed, so there's nothing to install on the source, no API keys to generate, and no access to configure. You only install Importly on your destination Shopify store.

(09)

What happens to product variants, SKUs, and options?

Importly pulls variants, options, and tags along with the core product data, so size, color, and material combinations come through intact. Your product structure on the destination store mirrors what's on the source, ready for you to review and edit before publishing.

(10)

Will it copy images, or just URLs?

Importly copies the actual images into your Shopify store rather than linking to files hosted elsewhere. That way your product images live in your own Shopify media library and won't break if the source store changes or goes offline later.

Pricing & currency

(11)

Can I change prices during the import?

Yes. Importly includes pricing tools that apply during import — markup multipliers, compare-at-price rules, and smart rounding to endings like .99, .95, or .00. You set the rules once and they apply across the products in the batch, so you don't have to edit prices product by product.

(12)

Does Importly convert currency automatically?

Yes. Live currency conversion is built in with 20+ currencies, so you can import a source priced in one currency and land the products in another. Conversion rates are applied at the time of the import.

(13)

Can I apply a markup or discount across all imported products?

Yes. Markup multipliers let you raise or lower prices across the batch, and compare-at-price rules let you set "was" prices for promotional display. Combine those with smart rounding to land on clean retail price points without manual editing.

(14)

Does it handle VAT?

Yes. Importly has VAT toggles in the pricing tools, so you can bring prices in either inclusive or exclusive of VAT depending on how your destination store is configured. You choose the treatment that matches your tax setup.

AI optimization

(15)

What does AI optimization do?

AI optimization rewrites product titles and descriptions for SEO and generates image alt text automatically. Text rewrites cost 1 credit per product. Output follows Google Merchant Center guidelines — no color or size in titles, no promotional text, no prices in descriptions. The AI is powered by Google's Gemini models.

(16)

Will the AI-generated content pass Google Merchant Center review?

AI output is written to follow Google Merchant Center guidelines: no color or size in titles, no promotional text, no prices in descriptions, and no watermarks on images. That aligns with what Merchant Center expects, though Google's review process is ultimately theirs to run.

(17)

Can I use my own prompt templates?

Yes. You can save custom AI prompt templates for titles and descriptions and reuse them across imports. That's useful if you want a consistent voice across your catalog or need to tailor output for a specific niche or audience.

(18)

What happens if AI optimization fails on a product?

The product still imports with its original title, description, and images — the base import runs independently of AI, so nothing is lost. You'll see the AI step flagged in the Import History page, where you can retry optimization on that product or contact support if something looks wrong.

(19)

Does AI run automatically on every import?

No. Importing is always free and runs without AI. AI optimization is opt-in — you choose to apply it to a product or batch, and credits are only consumed when you run it. You can import a full catalog without spending a single credit.

AI images

(20)

Can Importly generate product images?

Yes. Importly can generate new product images using Google's Gemini models. Each generated image costs 2 credits. Generated images follow Google Merchant Center guidelines — no watermarks — so they're suitable for use in your Shopify store and other sales channels.

(21)

Can it improve my existing product photos?

Yes. Importly can enhance existing product images in addition to generating new ones. Enhancement also costs 2 credits per image. This is useful when source photos are low quality or inconsistent with how you want your catalog to look on your storefront.

(22)

How much does an AI image cost?

Each AI image costs 2 credits, whether it's a newly generated image or an enhancement of an existing one. Text rewrites (titles and descriptions) are 1 credit per product, so images are the more credit-intensive option to plan for.

Credits & billing

(23)

How do credits work?

Credits power AI features: 1 credit rewrites a product's title and description, and 2 credits generate or enhance an image. Importing products without AI is always free. New accounts receive 25 free credits on install, and you can add more through a monthly plan or a one-time credit pack.

(24)

What's the difference between plan credits and credit packs?

Plan credits come with a monthly or annual subscription and refresh each billing cycle — they don't roll over. Credit packs are one-time purchases that never expire. When you run AI, plan credits are consumed first, then pack credits are used.

(25)

Do credits expire?

Plan credits reset at each billing cycle, so unused plan credits don't roll over. The 25 free credits you get on install never expire. One-time credit packs — Boost, Starter, Growth, and Pro — also never expire, so they sit in your account until you decide to use them.

(26)

Can I change plans later?

Yes. You can move between Starter ($9.99 / 150 credits), Pro ($24.99 / 450 credits), and Business ($49.99 / 1,200 credits) monthly, or switch to annual billing. Annual plans are priced at 10× the monthly rate and grant 12× the monthly credits — effectively two months free.

(27)

How is Importly billed?

Billing is handled entirely through Shopify's Billing API, so Importly charges appear on your regular Shopify invoice. There's no separate credit card to manage and no third-party checkout — everything flows through your existing Shopify account.

(28)

Is there a free plan?

You don't need a paid plan to use Importly. The import itself is always free, and new accounts get 25 free credits on install that never expire. You only need a plan or a credit pack if you want ongoing AI optimization beyond those initial credits.

(29)

Do I get credits back if a product fails to import?

Importing itself is free, so a failed product doesn't cost you any credits on its own. If AI optimization on a specific product didn't produce usable output, check the Import History page for the error and contact support if a credit was consumed in a way that looks wrong.

Data & privacy

(30)

What data does Importly store?

Importly stores the product data it pulls during imports — titles, descriptions, images, variants, options, tags — along with your account settings, saved prompt templates, and import history. Billing runs through Shopify's Billing API, so Importly doesn't store payment card details on its own servers.

(31)

What happens to my data if I uninstall?

Importly honors Shopify's data erasure and customer data request webhooks. When you uninstall or a data request comes through those webhooks, your data is handled in line with those contracts. Products already imported into your Shopify store remain in your store — they belong to you.

(32)

Does Importly share data with third parties?

AI features send product content to Google's Gemini models for processing. Billing information flows through Shopify's Billing API. Beyond those processors, Importly doesn't sell or share your data with third parties for marketing or unrelated purposes.

Troubleshooting & support

(33)

What happens if an import is taking a long time?

Imports run in the background, so you can close the tab and check the Import History page for progress. Larger catalogs take longer, and AI optimization adds processing time on top of the base import. If an import seems stuck well beyond what the catalog size would suggest, reach out to support.

(34)

A product failed to import — what do I do?

Open the Import History page to see which product failed and the reason for the failure. From there you can retry the import on that product. If the issue looks like it's on the source feed — a missing field or a broken image URL — contact support and we'll take a look.

(35)

How do I contact support?

You can reach support from inside the Importly app in your Shopify admin, or through the contact details listed on Importly's Shopify App Store page. When you reach out, include your store URL and, if relevant, the import ID from the Import History page so we can pull it up quickly.
