Magento to Shopify Migration
Move from Magento or Adobe Commerce to Shopify without carrying forward the maintenance burden, ageing custom code, and infrastructure complexity that make the current store expensive to run. We plan the transition around your data, integrations, SEO requirements, and business-critical workflows, creating a Shopify setup that is easier to operate and improve.

Approach
Our Approach to Magento to Shopify Replatforming
When Magento maintenance, security updates, custom development, and infrastructure demands begin consuming too much time and budget, migration cannot be treated as another routine development project.
We begin with a technical review of the existing Magento store to define the migration scope, identify dependencies, and document the functionality the new Shopify setup must support.
From there, we build the migration plan around the store’s data, storefront, integrations, and SEO requirements. Each part of the existing setup is assessed before it is transferred, replaced, or rebuilt in Shopify. This platform-specific approach is part of our broader Shopify migration services, covering the technical, operational, and SEO requirements behind a controlled move to Shopify.
Still evaluating the platform change? Our Magento vs Shopify comparison explains how the two platforms differ in technical ownership, day-to-day management, SEO, and long-term operating requirements.
What We Migrate from Magento to Shopify
We migrate the approved store data into a structure built for Shopify rather than copying the existing Magento database without review. The scope can include:
Products and catalogue data
We map products, variants, images and relevant Adobe Commerce attributes to the new Shopify catalogue structure.
Customer and order records
Customer data and historical orders are analysed and included based on the available source data and selected migration method.
Content and SEO data
We prepare approved page content and metadata, while mapping existing URLs to their new destinations in Shopify.
The final scope is confirmed during the technical audit. Because Magento catalogues can rely heavily on attribute sets and custom attributes, the source data must be reviewed before it is mapped into Shopify.
What Needs to Be Rebuilt or Reconfigured?
Some parts of a Magento store cannot be transferred into Shopify as they are. The migration audit identifies which parts of the existing setup can be reproduced through Shopify’s standard capabilities and which require a different technical solution.
Rebuilding these elements is also an opportunity to remove outdated code, reduce unnecessary complexity, and create a storefront that is easier to maintain and optimise. Rather than reproducing the existing Magento setup line by line, we rebuild the parts that still support the way the business operates today.
Rebuilding the Storefront for Shopify
We rebuild the storefront within Shopify’s theme architecture rather than transferring Magento theme code. The existing design can guide the new storefront, but its templates and components must be adapted or recreated for Shopify. Magento and Shopify use different theme systems, with Shopify themes relying on Liquid templates.
Replacing Magento Extensions and Custom Logic
We document the business purpose of existing extensions and custom code, then replace each required function with the most appropriate Shopify solution. This may involve Shopify’s native capabilities, an app, an integration or custom development.
Only functionality that still creates real business value is carried into the new implementation. The goal is not to rebuild years of Magento complexity inside Shopify, but to create a cleaner store that is easier to operate and improve. Shopify supports online-store functionality through its theme architecture, apps and app extensions.
Reconnecting the Systems Behind Your Magento Store
A Magento store is often only one part of a wider commerce setup. Product data may come from a PIM, inventory and order information may depend on an ERP, customer data may be managed through a CRM, while POS and other internal systems can support retail and fulfilment operations.
These connections cannot be assumed to work the same way after the move to Shopify. Each integration needs to be reviewed, mapped to the new platform and tested against the workflows the business still relies on. Where an existing connection cannot be reused, the replacement may require a Shopify app, a direct integration or custom API development.
Reducing SEO Risk During the Migration
SEO requirements are included in the migration plan before the new Shopify structure is approved. Priority pages are reviewed, existing URLs are mapped to relevant Shopify destinations, and redirects are prepared before the transition.
Magento URL Mapping and 301 Redirects
Because Magento and Shopify use different URL structures, existing URLs need to be matched with the most appropriate destinations on the new store. The redirect map is reviewed and tested before the domain transition.
Metadata and Internal Link Review
Priority metadata, canonical setup and internal links are checked against the new Shopify structure. After publication, indexation and organic performance are monitored so migration-related issues can be identified and addressed.
Magento to Shopify Plus Migration
Shopify Plus may be the right choice when the Adobe Commerce store depends on requirements that exceed the capabilities of the standard Shopify plans. This can include more advanced B2B pricing structures, centralised management across multiple Shopify stores or deeper customisation within the checkout process.
The assessment also considers the ongoing cost of maintaining the current Magento setup against the expected operating model on Shopify or Shopify Plus.
The appropriate plan is confirmed during the technical audit. We match the required capabilities with the available Shopify plans before defining the build and migration scope.

Magento to Shopify Migration Questions
How do Magento and Shopify maintenance costs compare?
Magento often requires more direct responsibility for hosting, upgrades, security patches, and custom code maintenance. Shopify shifts more of the platform infrastructure to the provider, but total operating costs still depend on the store’s apps, integrations, and development needs.
Can customer passwords be migrated from Adobe Commerce to Shopify?
No. Customer profiles can be migrated, but existing passwords cannot be transferred. Customers will need to create new login credentials for the Shopify store.
Will our store experience any downtime during the transition?
The migration is planned to minimise disruption while the Magento store remains active during development and testing. The final transition method depends on the existing setup.
How will the migration affect our organic search (SEO) rankings?
Ranking changes can occur during any platform migration. We reduce avoidable risk through URL mapping, redirects, metadata review and monitoring after the new store is published.
What happens to our custom Magento extensions and backend integrations?
Magento extensions do not transfer directly to Shopify. Each function is reviewed and replaced through Shopify features, an app, a new integration or custom development where required.
How do we choose between a standard Shopify plan and Shopify Plus?
The choice depends on the store’s actual requirements. B2B needs, checkout customisation, organisational structure and integrations are reviewed before a plan is recommended.
