We Stopped Quoting Apps and Started Shipping Them: The Story Behind Codersy Apps
For six years Codersy quoted custom apps that small businesses could not afford. Here is how that became Codersy Apps: one well-built app per type of business, branded per client and published under their own name for a flat monthly fee.

For six years Codersy built software the way agencies do: a brief, a quote, a few months of work, an invoice. That works for clients who can afford it. It never worked for the salon owner who messaged us at eleven at night asking what an app would cost, heard a number with four zeros in it, and went back to her paper notebook.
In 2024 we decided to stop quoting that app and start shipping it. The result is Codersy Apps, a product line inside Codersy: one well-built app per type of business, branded per client, published under the client's own name in the App Store and Google Play, for a flat monthly fee and nothing to pay for development.
The problem with custom apps for small businesses
Every custom app quote carries the same three costs. The build itself, which for a booking app runs well into five figures however small the salon. The time, usually months, during which the phone keeps ringing. And the part nobody budgets for: maintenance. Apple and Google change their rules several times a year, and an app that nobody is paid to update eventually stops working or is removed from the stores.
The insight that changed our business was boring: a booking app for one salon is the same booking app as for the next salon. Only the name, the logo, the services and the staff differ. So we built it once, properly, and built the business around branding it per client.
What “your own app” means in practice
The client's name, icon, colours and screenshots on the App Store and Google Play listing. Their customers install it and see that icon on the home screen. Push notifications from the business, free. A client list that belongs to the business, not to a marketplace. We publish from our developer accounts, so the owner never opens a developer console, and we keep the app updated as part of the monthly fee.
What it does not mean is bespoke features. We say that on the first call. If a business needs something that does not exist in the app, it is separate work, quoted separately, and often the moment Codersy the agency steps back in.
Where it started: salons
The first product was a branded booking app for beauty salons: clients book by service, staff member and time around the clock, the salon runs every chair from an admin app, deposits stop no-shows on long treatments, and reminders send themselves. It costs €50 a month, flat, with no development fee, a demo on the owner's phone in seven days and a live app in both stores in three to four weeks.
Seven salons run on it today, among them Milano Beauty, Ana Beauty Club, Duo Gea Studio and Lila Vanila. The owner of Ana Beauty Club, a nail salon, wrote to her clients when the app went live that there was no more waiting, that they now pick their own slots and move them themselves. That post did more for us than any pitch we have written.
Trainers and gyms followed
A personal trainer's business is programmes, video demos, measurements, weekly check-ins, chat and session booking, so that is what the personal trainer app does, under the trainer's own name. The first one has been in both stores since 2018. Gyms and studios needed the same core with classes, capacity, memberships and multi-trainer scheduling, which became the gym and studio app.
And now Shopify stores
Codersy has been a Shopify agency for years, so the next step was obvious once the model worked: turn a Shopify store into a branded mobile app, with real-time product sync, push notifications and the store's own listing in both app stores, for a flat monthly fee and no per-order success fee. The first two, Hop Hop Shop and Klompe Shop, are live on Google Play with the iOS versions following.
What productising taught us
Say no early. A product survives by doing a few things well; every “small” custom request is the first step back to being an agency.
Publishing is half the work. Store review, screenshots, privacy forms and the two-platform dance take as long as a feature and matter more to the client, who only sees the listing.
Maintenance is the real price of an app. Folding it into a subscription is the only honest way to sell software to a business that does not want to manage software.
Small businesses buy outcomes. Nobody asked us about frameworks. Everyone asked when their clients could start booking.
When custom still wins
A genuinely unusual workflow, deep integrations, several locations with different rules: that is agency work, and Codersy still does it. Our build-or-buy guide for salons and gyms puts the arithmetic side by side, and it is honest about the cases where the branded subscription is not the answer.
If you run a salon, coach clients, run a gym or sell on Shopify, you can see what your own app would look like at Codersy Apps. If you need something that does not exist yet, that is still what Codersy is for.
